Baked Beans (Backyard BBQ Style)

Baked Beans (Backyard BBQ Style)

This is a great BBQ side dish that pairs perfectly with brisket, ribs, pulled pork, or grilled chicken — ideal for backyard grilling and smoking.

Ingredients

  • 2 cans (28 oz total) pork and beans
  • 6 slices bacon, chopped
  • ½ cup yellow onion, diced
  • ½ cup brown sugar
  • ⅓ cup BBQ sauce
  • 2 tbsp yellow mustard
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp black pepper
  • (Optional add-ins: diced jalapeño, ground beef, or smoked sausage.)

Instructions

Cook the bacon

In a cast iron skillet or pan, cook the chopped bacon until almost crispy.

Sauté onion

Add diced onion to the bacon and cook until soft.

Add the beans

Pour in the pork and beans and stir.

Season and sweeten

Add brown sugar, BBQ sauce, mustard, Worcestershire, garlic powder, and black pepper. Mix well.

Bake or smoke

Oven: 350°F for 35–45 minutes

Smoker: 250°F for about 1 hour for extra smoke flavor.

Finish

Stir once halfway through and cook until thick and bubbly.

BBQ Tip

For extra flavor, place the beans under your brisket or ribs on the smoker so the drippings fall into the beans.
